Midlife is a huge part of our lives. A time when we are potentially not seen, where we feel we disappear into the background whilst battling with a myriad of menopausal symptoms, juggling the life stage with a whole spectrum of change going on around us; maybe ageing rentals and growing kids.
It's a time where we've had to say goodbye (way too early) to some of our favourite people, we may have been ghosted by others and then we add in a sprinkle of overwhelm, a dash (slash lorryload) of worry and don't even get me started on the itchy bastard skin in the middle of the night. It also seems that bathing in HRT isn't always the solution. It's possibly part of our solution but our brains are really smart and the resilience we have built over the years can start to see some cracks as we navigate this period of our lives.
And the other key part of the solution is mindset, but frankly, Doris can we be arsed? One day we're all 'we're going to nail today' and the next, it's mainly 'do I really need to wear a bra today'? Sometimes our ability to get all the shit done means the thing we ignore is the work we need to do on ourselces - because it's easier to carry on doing the same thing on repeat until the end of time.
But let's not be all doom and gloom, let's not sign ourselves off on a groundhog loop of 'what's for tea' until we end up dribbling in the old folks home (hopefully next to our mates).
We're also in a stage of our lives where we can find our freedom, where we can make a choice to do stuff - if we can figure out what the stuff even is.
And this is why I am setting up Ministry of Midlife; a community of like minded souls, an unfiltered safe space to support, rant, compare and contrast the mayhem of midlife.
It's where we will embrace the chaos, but also learn how to navigate it.
It’s where we won’t take ourselves too seriously. It's where we’ll have a giggle but also hold each other up, it's where we can binge the chocolate while talking about the fitness we should be doing and the sugar free diets we should be on.
It's where we will learn how our habits can hinder us. And understand how we can build habits, routines and rituals to help us.
It's where we’ll learn to give ourselves permission to be who we are in midlife, where we give zero fucks, where we stop apologising, where we own who we are and the space we live in. Where we take back control.
It's where we will become the mistresses of our midlife.
Navigating. Empowering. Unlearning and learning again.
