'I'm planning the biggest f&ck you I can think of......the success of me."
'I'm planning the biggest f&ck you I can think of......the success of me."
This was the blinking brilliant mic drop moment one of my clients said to me. She had been totally blindsided in her organisation and her only option was to walk away.
What she did next was pivotal; she walked away on her terms and what we did was look at what happened next and how she planned the come back of her.
One of the biggest and best mic drop moments for me over recent years has been that there is no sell-by date on what we can achieve.
Whether you are a women over 50 wondering what the beejesus is next, knowing you're not done yet.
Whether you have been blindsided and suddenly your plans have to become your biggest plot twist to date.
There's no expiry on when we can do something different, no rules on whether we chuck everything in the f*ck it bucket and start again.
In fact these plot twists (when you've had some time to rock in a corner) might just be the start of your most powerful chapter yet.
We’ve been fed this lie that the best time to launch, lead or build something bold is when you’re young, full of energy and "hungry." Crock of massive nonsense.
We know that women in their 50s have just as much success launching businesses as those in their 20s.
And actually the odds tip in our favour; my best years in business are happening right now, aged 52 years. Where I've done the work on me, reinvesting in me, reskilling and resetting on my terms. I know who I am, what I want to achieve and who I want to work with.
Because by now, we’ve got experience, the networks, sharper judgement and we’re done faffing about trying to prove ourselves.
I didn’t move into leadership training, coaching and speaking until I was 45. And I didn’t do it with a polished plan and a vision board.
I did it a bit knackered, mid-menopause, mid-life, mid-chaos and mid-shift. Because when life collided, I realised: I didn’t want to keep holding the sky up for someone else’s idea of success. And I was done shrinking to fit in someone else's room.
Every twist (and there have been a LOT of plot twists) - redundancy, building a business at 26 weeks pregas, shouty mumdom, the collision of life and business taught me something.
And now I blinking love enabling other women find their fire, use their fire, keep their fire and lived experience to lead on their terms, to plan the biggest comeback, you can think of......the success of you.
So if you’re sat there wondering whether it’s too late, if you're sitting there having been blindsided, here's your reminder:
- There is no sell-by date on potential, possibility, on ambition.
- No age limit on impact.
- No expiry on what’s possible.
This is your sequel season. And it doesn’t need blinking permission from anyone except yourself.
(Picture of me, finally feeling like the me I was always meant to be)
